What HanziQuest does
HanziQuest helps Mandarin learners turn real Chinese posts, comments, screenshots, messages, and everyday text into short learning quests. The browser extension works only when you choose to analyze selected text, pasted text, or a screenshot area.
Information we process
- Email address and authentication token when you sign in.
- Chinese text or screenshot content that you explicitly submit for quest generation.
- Generated quest results, usage state, and account quota information.
- Extension settings and recent saved cards stored locally in your browser.
- Basic product analytics on the HanziQuest website, such as page views and product events.
How the browser extension uses data
The extension does not continuously read pages in the background. It detects selected Chinese text so it can show a small action button, and it sends content to the HanziQuest API only after you ask it to generate a quest. Screenshot capture is initiated by you and limited to the visible browser area you select.
Recent saved cards and source page references are stored in Chrome local storage on your device. They are not sold, used for advertising, or shared with data brokers.
How we use information
- Generate learner-friendly explanations, pinyin, pronunciation notes, quizzes, and review cards.
- Authenticate accounts, enforce daily usage limits, and prevent abuse.
- Improve product reliability, localization, and learning quality.
Third-party services
HanziQuest may use model providers through the HanziQuest API to generate learning quests, email services to deliver login codes, hosting providers to run the service, and Google Analytics on the website to understand aggregate usage. We do not allow these services to use submitted learning content for advertising.
Your choices
- You can avoid submitting private or sensitive content.
- You can remove recent cards and sign out from the extension.
- You can uninstall the extension at any time.
- You can contact us to request account deletion or data questions.
